Carnival (Fasching)
Fasching (Karneval, Fastnacht, Fasnacht, Fastelabend) is pre-Lenten festivals celebrated in grand style mostly in the dominant regions of the German speaking countries. It officially begins in most regions in Germany on the eleventh of November at 11:11 for 40 days until 6th of January, when is the actual day the Lenten-fasting starts. So basically Fasching is having festival to get ready to fast. There are a lot of festivities during Fasching:
1. Weiberfastnacht: Thursday before Ash Wednesday on which women snip off men’s ties and kiss any man passing by for the whole day.
2. Parties, Celebrations and Parades: People celebrate in costume at various carnival events, parties and parades.
3. Rosenmontag: Largest, most popular carnival parades taking place on the Monday before Ash Wednesday.
4. Fastnachtsdienstag: Burial or burning of the Nubbel, which is a life-size doll made of straw which represents all the guilt committed during carnival season. It is done on Tuesday evening before Ash Wednesday.
There are a lot of different make ups for faschings such as animal makeup, dead-like makeup, and various different make ups that hides yourself and enables you to enjoy the festival. I selected a picture and did the makeup based on the makeup, which was a makeup that looks like water splattering.
